Everything about this game feels like a generic low budget military fps from the late 2000's. Story is generic, gameplay is janky and you can't adjust the FOV. There's something about this game that is so generic and janky, that it's oddly charming and nostalgic.
People set their expectations too high for this game. It's a solid rpg, but not some revolutionary game that cures cancer. It doesn't do much new but it looks really nice and plays well. It's kinda buggy but playable. Could use more optimization. Most of the endings aren't great but some of are satisfying. Gameplay is good but I wish there were more cybernetic options and impactful decisions. Overall, solid game, just don't expect it to be a revolutionary groundbreaking experience.
Though not as deep as something like cities skylines, it is still good fun and the simplicity makes it easier for new players. The Colonial Charter mod makes the game even better by adding more buildings and jobs so I suggest downloading and setting that up. The game goes really cheap on sales so you can usually pick it up for a really good value.
Gunplay is meh, levels are too narrow and cramped, even though you need to move around to dodge and the horror aspect feels like a cheap haunted house. Gameplay gets repetitive quickly too. Pacing is too slow for my taste as well. I only wanted to try this one out since I really like Doom (2016) and heard this game was quite polarizing for Doom fans. I think I'm in the camp that doesn't like it. I don't really mind if the game is different from the previous ones, but I don't like this specific direction they took, where it isn't a good Doom game or a survival horror one either. It does come with Doom 1 and 2 so that's cool.
