I wanna say upfront, I never played this on the PC back in the day. I had a dreamcast, and it was one of my favorite games on the system. It was just crazy fun, with great controls, and great customization. If the PC version is as good, I'm gonna be in heaven.
I picked this one up in the clearance bin a long time ago, and loved it. Its basically like simcity meets Civ. A planet is broken up into territories, each territory is like a micro simcity game, but where the structures effect the over all strategic reserves of your faction. The battles and diplomacy function like a simplified civilization. I loved this game and beat it a ton of times. Totally worth it if you like the genres.
A fantastic game with some original concepts. If you love fallout or NWN, you'll love this one too. The only real problem with the game is that the technologist abilities are WAY underpowered. You can play through the game as a Magicker with ease (even on hard). But the technology track is soooo grueling. For instance, with a magic speced character, you can kill early enemies with 2 to 3 spell and dont miss (can be resisted, but usually not till endgame). It generally takes about 5 bullets, and you miss 1/2 the time. If you do play a techy, consider making them a melee type, or a bomb/boomerang thrower. Yes... you kill faster using a boomerang then a gun..... BUT- these issues have been handled in the unofficial mods if your into that sort of thing. Heck, theres a really amazing mod that adds like 20 hours of content, and cool stuff like magic-guns.
I played the heck outta this game when it was on PS1. I've never been a fan of the genre, but I played the demo and was hooked. The puzzles were hard, but not impossible, and all very logical. None of that fake difficulty BS where the puzzles are just random garbage you could never figure out without the guide. It's all stuff that you can do if you put your mind to it, and in the rare occation you crack open the walkthrough, you slap yourself for not figuring it out. Can't wait to replay this one, its been a while!
