You do get two new races to play against and a nice extra map type There is a new influence system which I completely ignore without consequence and they have played about with the resource tree so that you may need to decide again, what tech to grab first. You don’t get any compelling reason to change your tactics from the way you played the game before the dlc but the two bugs I’ve found after 8 large (weekend long solo) games and two 3 person multiplayer matches are minor glitches that can be worked around so it’s pretty stable. Imo its worth the asking price for the map and the option to play a new races background story but not a must have.
Without calling any one names… this game does divide people because it IS unstable! The trouble becomes obvious when you get into the middle campaign (or a large scrums scenario) where the armies get too big for the computer to handle and cashes to desktop. Yes you can lower the graphics to slow down the collapse and that will bye you extra turns but sooner or later the game will collapse again. I give the dc a 3 because the game is fun to play in a short (weekend) campaign or a medium scenario but if you want to play the game as it was intended i.e. a campaign taking up months of casual play then the game will eventually become unplayable and you have wasted your money.
Rocket science it's not but the game entertains young Miss 8 and the music doesn't drive be too batty so as far as I'm concerned it is worth the money I paid for it. p.s. I'm not sure what the issue is with the update system because I was very impressed by it. You just decide between beta patches or only stable ones and get on with playing the game… seriously, its so simple a 8 year old can do it!
