Fallout: New Vegas Ultimate Edition

A fine Fallout game

I played Wasteland, Fallout, Fallout 2, Fallout Tactics, and Fallout 4 at release. I had skipped Fallout 3 and NV. I was happy to see GOG offer a version of NV that would run in Win 10. The game play in this Fallout iteration is fine. I still haven't figured out how ranged weapons would ever be preferable to melee weapons, but since you can get a super sledge by level 8, it hardly mattered in my play through. Still, it seems that a 10 mm handgun should do nasty damage to a gecko. But no. So, melee it was. One swing, next gecko. Two swings, next death claw. The reason I give this game 3 stars is that this is the first Fallout game where I never cared about any of the npcs I interacted with. Well, I need to qualify that. The Legion's actions in my first encounter with them pissed me off sufficiently to end up with Legionary Assassins chasing me starting at level 8 (thus the super sledges). Other than that, I never cared about the world or the denizens of it. I just went through the motions as an apathetic observer. That was quite unfortunate for a Fallout title.
