Disco Elysium - The Final Cut

Fantastic Detective CRPG

+Deliciously brilliant story telling +Excellent use of the generic amnesic plot line to allow you rebuild a completely broken character +Exhibits a great range of emotions. This game really shows the damage depression can have as well as laugh at most of the absurdities thoughts your character can have -Can be overtly wordy in places. Throwing words that have no meaning at you. -Weak ending although I feel this was intended -Certain roll checks can block progression in certain quest lines Overview: Disco Elysium is a fantastically written CRPG with an excellent set of characters and brilliant use of amnesia to build a character to your fancy. The world is brilliantly written and filled with a great variety of characters with complex thoughts and there own personal agendas. The plot slowly unfolds get more and more complex as domino effect takes place where it ultimately peters out in the end but still never the less is a great romp and does not take away from the experience. This game is well worth a play.

SOMA

Fantastic story

+Excellent story which delves into the Human Psyche and asks interesting questions about what it is to be human +Excellent characters with believable personalities and compelling backstories +Creepy atmosphere with a lived in world to base it on -Monsters are more of a nuisance then a threat -Monsters discourage exploration where most of the backstory could be hidden -Game can freeze when it’s loading a new area. Overview: Soma is a dark science fiction game with a bleak but sombering story which delves into to what it means to be human. Unfortunately it is held back by a series of monsters which act more like a nuisance then a scary threat.

Unreal Gold

Great variety of weapons

Unreal gold is a decent FPS with some great music and weapons variety held back by its lack of variety in it’s enemies and some rather lackluster level design. One of the best aspect of the game is the weapon variety. Each weapon used has it own setup and way of acting. Including an 8 barreled rocket launcher, a crystal firing minigun, a shotgun with a large spread, a bio firing sludge gun and a razor firing gun. Each of these weapons are also used by the enemy which puts you on the on the same playing field. Luckily most of the weapons have slow projectiles meaning they can be dodged. Continuing on with the projectiles as they are slow and easily dodgeable means that the game tries and gets you to keep moving about when playing the game. This is means that you should be constantly moving and it works well in trying to get you from staying still. Unfortunately due to a lack of variety in the enemies the game slowly peters out at the end as you are constantly fighting the same variety of enemy. It also doesn’t help that the enemies are all rather bullet spongey on normal mode and it feels like it takes too long to take them down. The level design also could be better designed at times. The more linear level work quite well in the game as you slowly move towards to the end of the level. The less linear level can be confusing and have way too much backtracking with nothing new changed in the level. In the end those levels feel like there's far too much padding to be interesting. Unreal gold also include the expansion pack for the unreal, return to na pali. It’s ultimately a rather lazy expansion. There is the introduction of 3 new weapons all things available in other games (machine gun, rocket launcher and grenade launcher) and I rarely used them and 3 new enemies types (spider, lizard and human solider) again things which are easily found in other games. It did introduce more voicing but only at the end of of a level. It ultimately is more Unreal and at that point I was done with the game. Overall Unreal gold is a really fun FPS which encourages constantly moving but is let down by a lack of enemy variety and too much backtracking in some of the levels.
