This game, when it works, is amazing everything you want in an RTS. The graphics have aged surprisingly gracefully, there's a decent variety in units and playing the Empire feels very different than playing the Rebellion. Unfortunately this game runs like absolute garbage on modern hardware. It wont even run on my laptop despite it reaching the recomended requirements 10x over and on my gaming PC it barely runs, the framerate tanks and the game runs in slow motion in any but the smallest battle and it only gets worse as the game goes on. Looking at other reviews it seems that not everyone has this problem but be warned your experience may vary.
In a medium full of bland and repetitive shooters Gone Home is a breath of fresh air, I do not even begin to understand the negative reviews yes it is very short (I finished it in about three hours) but for what it was the length was perfect. Apparently I'm the only one who loved the ending but this game almost made me cry and I am not the type of person who cries easily. Yes it is flawed in some ways but if you can look past the flaws there's a beautiful story underneath that most games don't even attempt to tell. It also manages believable and deep character and female characters at that which I'm sure I don't have to tell you our beloved medium has struggled with in the past and present. If you are interested in character design in games or elsewhere I can not recommend this game enough. However for the average person it's hard to say, be prepared for a slow pace and allot of reading if you want to get anything out of this game. (Now that I think about it that's probably where most of the bad reviews come from this game needs you to read every scrap of text you can find in game, if you don't do that the story and whole experience would seem very shallow and flat.
My suggestion is use the Wiki as little as possible this is a game about exploration and discovery and figuring stuff out on your own feels amazing it's similar to minecraft but so much better in every way. It can be difficult or relatively easy unfortunately there is nothing akin to minecrafts peaceful or creative mode but for the most part how challenging it is depends on how you play, what biomes you spend your time in and how deep underground you choose to go. I would recommend it to anyone who has a strong sense of discovery, likes figuring things out, likes building and using their imagination, or likes challenging gameplay.
I love this game it's fun addicting, starts easy but can get hard if you don't know what you're doing and just feels good to hack in. That being said f**k the main story, I didn't care in the slightest and it required expensive resources I didn't have and didn't really need for much else at the time so I ignored it. But it turns out it's on a timer so if you don't complete it it will literally give you a game over and brick your save file. (all deaths in the game are permanent and make you start from square one) I would seriously pay real money for a button I could press to disable the main story or at least stop the timer. if anyone knows of a mod please tell me. But in spite of that the game is still phenomenal and you should get it, it is more than worth it at full price and if it's discounted at the time you're reading this get it now, if your computer is capable of reading this comment it's probably capable of running the game so don't even check... GIVE THEM YOUR MONEYS!!!!! They earned it.
