This DLC adds non essential gameplay mechanics (unlike the essential Utopia DLC), but never the less, some quite welcomed ones. The idea alone of playing a GIANT TOASTER EMPIRE is quite refreshing. A few options will allow you to make some interessting civilisations such as Exterminating "skynet" Hives, or some "bio-loving" little robots. It's part of the "DLC you should realy get with Stellaris" list.
This DLC adds essential gameplay mechanics, the Ascention Perk alone is something you can't play without once tried. Simply put, all that this DLC contains should be in the game. The price in an other hand, is quite high. But when compared to what the Apocalypse DLC adds, Utopia is worth its price.
