Lands of Lore™ 1+2

Great crawler but be careful

I love this game, one of the best dungeon crawlers I've played. And it's surprisingly user friendly despite the age. I like the fact that it has a map, and a story, and the story has actual voice acting. Really cool dungeons to explore full of creatures with beautiful art. Different areas have a different atmosphere/vibe, from lofty castles to eerie caves, forests and swamps. Such variety! Navigation is helped by the fact that there's an automap. Combat is quite fun, fully real-time. The inventory/menu system can be awkward to use but you get used to it. I prefer moving the keyboard over and using my left hand on the numpad. The only complain I have is regarding the quests and softlocks. Some of these quests expect you to be a psychic, and I would never have figured out where to go or what to do without a guide. Perhaps (like many older games) it was expected that players would ring a hotline or read a magazine article to make progress. But some of the softlocks in this game are absolutely brutal. I would suggest making regular soft and hard saves, and keep permanent saves for each new area. You can lock yourself out of important quest items, and you won't know until much later. That really sucks when you realise you need to reload a save and lose 6 hours of progress from a softlock. So I do think the game is a masterpiece but I would suggest skimming/glancing over a guide on occasion to avoid softlocks and frustration.

Wasteland 2 Director's Cut Digital Deluxe Edition Upgrade + The Bard's Tale

Red Boots DLC

Isn't it ironic that the developers have the caption "Red Boots DLC - $59.99" in the corner on the menu screen for WL2. When you click it, a message appears "Just kidding! You didn't really think we'd have DLC did you?" The developers were poking fun at lame DLC, showing the fans that they are above such nonsense. And yet here we are, with a sleazy cashgrab DLC. It's very disappointing really. Funnily enough, a recent patch has removed the "Red Boots DLC" button from the Wasteland 2 menu. I guess the words came back to haunt them. Play Wasteland 2, it's great. Avoid this disappointing cash grab.
