Partisans 1941 Extended Edition

stop and think

by paying for this, you will be monetarily supporting the 21st century neonazi imperialism and helping to spread russian propaganda glorifying one of the states directly responsible for the outbreak of ww2 and millions of deaths. stop and think.

Dead Age

grinding torture

the game is annoying as hell, right from the first playthrough, if one can call a helpless poking at the interface a playthrough. having invested two or three hours, one finally learns the basics enough to try to save ammo, only upgrade one or two skills per survivor, specialize them either for expeditions or camp duties, etc. however, when by the fifth or sixth game one manages somehow survive one full week or more in a desperate race against the shortage of everything... another unlucky strike of the random generator like two mutually excluding missions, both too difficult for the injured party with no ammo left, ends badly ― there's just no more desire to start it all over. the game is addictive, but too primitive in terms of gameplay, it just never rewards one for all that grinding and dying and despair and more grinding over and over. sorry, I wanted to like dead age because the graphical style reminds me of the old flash rebuild 2, but that one was so much more fun.

Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon®

fun in spite of being very aged

this tactical first person shooter must have been a hit back in 2001 but has aged and it shows: the virtual landscape is schematic, the unpassable patches are... stupid by today's normes, the enemy's passive ai borders idiocy (sniper is god in most missions, just send your scouts ahead in recon mode and do the job from far behind). but there's something done just right because even after 17 years the game is still fun to play! doubly so since in spite of political correctness you get to shoot the bastards who downed the mh17 and tried to frame ukrainians for it...

Venom. Codename: Outbreak

open-world shooter with a story

played it back in 2001 or 2002 and just loved it then bacause it was one of the first open-world fps games i stumbled upon. think far cry here: venom let you explore the open map from a vantage point and choose the approach route and combat tactics best suitable for you and really tries to deliver a story, not just a couple of hours of midless shooting. those who like fast-paces corridor shooters probably disliked this game, but i loved it even despite some ai glitches. of course it looks much dated today and probably not worth your time and money but…

SiN Gold

not worth the money

all the 5-star reviews must be from nostalgic old-timers. i understand that. however… sin wanted to bring something new to the stage back in 1998, but there arrives half-life. and even those who liked sin for it's animation-like graphics got deus ex in a couple of years, which delivered in tons what sin never had. look for RookUK comment ("Deservedly forgotten") for more. don't buy it for $9,99 unless you know what you are doing ;-) add it to wishlist and wayt for a discount if you absolutely must have it, and in the meantime grab yourself some of 2004-ish shooters here for half the price.
