This is pretty much what i expected. Is it a new game? No. Does it run perfectly smooth in 4k with enhanced textures? Yes. Does it mean for a small amount of money i can now run the original game in high res with enhanced textures and super smooth camera with no problems? Yes. If you are expecting a massive graphical upgrade - you aren't going to get it. But it does look better, and it does run better. I'm starting the expansion, Mask of the Betrayer, that i never got around to playing back in the day. Its good. If they did major changes to the game people would complain that it was no longer true to the original - so can't win. This is original game plus. If you played the original and are OK with shelling out a little money to have it run much better: go ahead. If you're poor/tight with money and would rather do with mods and screwing around - do that. If you're expecting an upgraded game to complete with something like BG3 - no this is not that, and you should not expect that.
First up - yes, there are bugs, but they're getting fixed - yes, NPC interaction outside of the main characters is basically non-existent - yes, it could do with a lot of massaging to be worthy of CDProjekt's reputation - yes, there was no way this could ever have lived up to the hype But... if you can get past some of the game world issues, the story that is there is decent. The graphics are great. The sound is top notch. The gameplay shouldn't be too unfamiliar to those who played Witcher3. Spells are hacks. You have guns. Its clearly the same base game mechanics. I think much of the issues can be fixed at least somewhat with patches and add-on DLC. It's still one of the few recent games i bothered to spend the time to complete in late 2020/early 2021. If you're more concerned with gunplay and game mechanics, maybe buy on sale (or not at all). If you're more interested in the story element, its decent. I'm not upset with my purchase.
So, by the time i got around to wanting to try PST, it was 2013 and the original was low res, didn't work well in current Windows versions and had all sorts of graphical bugs on my system. So the Enhanced edition has been great. I play in widescreen 2560x1080, which it supports. As to the gameplay itself. I'm only perhaps... 4-6 hours in, and have started multiple times. The biggest surprise with this game vs. say, Baldurs Gate is that in the multiple re-starts I have performed, i have found many different things multiple times. I've managed to escape the starting area 2-3 different ways. Combat so far is a cake-walk. This doesn't seem to be a combat first game, however the plot and amount of different paths you can take, thus far is very impressive. If you missed this originally and/or are a fan of the Infinity Engine games, don't hesitiate.
Getting this game to work on either Windows 10 or Ubuntu is a right pain. Display issues on Windows 10, sound issues on Ubuntu 16.04 LTS. Work fine on my Mac running El Capitan (ironically, being a Windows on PC game and neither of my PC operating systems can handle it properly). Waiting for the enhanced edition to drop this week. Just be aware, that this seems to be less compatible than either the Baldurs Gate 1/2 Originals or the Icewind Dale originals, in my experience. If you're on the fence about which version to buy, IMHO its a no brainer, get the enhanced version. Based on the time i'm having with BG2 Enhanced at the moment, i have high hopes for the enhanced edition of this.
Bad voice acting, bad story, no party, small world, buggy as hell... the list goes on. The ultima series peaked with ultima 7, if you've played that and liked it, but haven' t played any further; just ... don't. Remember ultima for the previous games, this one is a turd.
