Door Kickers

I quite like it.

As a big fan of the jagged alliance, xcom series and the older battle bugs I actually quite like this. This reminds me an awful lot of Frozen Synapse but it feels streamlined and looks better. You will still require a lot of patience and forethought but the ability to work in 'real time' Admitedly I've only played the single missions so far and am a bit annoyed at how poorly I am doing. There is a slightly annoying cannot delete orders bug I've noticed as well. A bit more variety in the music and sound would bit encouraging as well. The main thing I really want is a more jagged alliance style feel... for example more personailty in the soilders, perma death, speech, back story, story etc. If I find these things in the misions/ story sorry. Recommended.

Zafehouse: Diaries

So much potential!

I've been engrossed for about 20 hours now but feel the game feels unfinished with a few bugs and not enough content as a whole. I've played untimed goaless easy mode the most and never won once (once killing 629 of 601 zombies?) but won the first time I played helicopter/ hard mode. The custom content generator is a nice touch but it has crashed everytime I've tried adding characters. I respect that the creators have gone towards the 'walking dead' style with constant relationship problems. The number of useless characters and petty bickering is maddening, I realise they are going for the 'walking dead' style but still I have had to send so many characters off to their doom just for some peace and quiet. The fatigue and hunger aspect is a nice touch but it's very hard to detect tiredness and hunger until it's too late. I've had characters suddenly fall asleep half way through important breach and barricading jobs. The characters could be fleshed out a little more with some dialogue and more art and I feel the game could do with some more sound and music. It's new, it's a great idea but it's not quite finished yet.

Papers, Please

Engrossing but a bit tiring.

How do you make a fun paperwork simulator? Put a lot of story elements into the mix to throw you off everytime you find your feet. This game makes me appreciate all those people I've passed at airports and trains station so much more. I like the simple presentation and increase in difficulty in time (which makes sense in the real world) however the instant penalties are infuriating ! No food for your faceless lazy uncle today because you let through 2 people with expired scraps of paper and you are on commission to protect our border. Why don't THEY do my job if they are so perfect and can spot every SINGLE MISTAKE that I've made? I've never successfully passed a few weeks in their calender because I either become so paranoid I almost don't let anyone pass and get no commission or a slip up a few times then rage quit at the mystery penalty check.

Anomaly Warzone Earth

A nice change

Squad based, rail based strategy. The only game similar I can think of is the node based oil rush. It's a good idea and a good start with good graphics and good gameplay mechanics. I'm also happy with the sound, music and voice acting after I got over the 'tea and crumpets with the queen'. But... after you play through the 14 mission campaign in 10 hours or so then...you're done. There is only so much you can do with the roughly 5 types of stationary enemies, 6 units and 4 special abilities. Don't get me wrong, keeping it simple is a great idea for a short game on a tablet. I wish there was a little more variety, perhaps random elements. Maybe a halt order so that the shield could recharge, maybe a ammo/ fuel mechanic where you'd have to send your units to reload and refill. Perhaps an XP mechanic or even damged vehicles parts and wounds to the crew meaning you'd may be forced to stop to repair a track OR you'd have to swap drivers to a less experienced one. Worth a play but it doesn't last that long.
