Shadows of Doubt

Avoid at all costs, description is a lie

A cool concept ruined by broken mechanics, all that stuff in the description about NPCs having lives is a lie, they just ping between whatever points of interest are near them. They're scheduled to leave work at 1800? Well instead they're just gonna be walking around the office magically entering whatever room you're in all night. NPCs see you through walls, sometimes they walk straight through locked doors, everyone's immediate reaction to you doing anything remotely suspicious is for them (and every other npc in the area) to open fire on you. Every single citizen seems to have a firearm except you, and you cannot use any of the guns you pick up, I don't mind not being able to use guns, especially because you can beat every single combat encounter by stabbing someone once or throwing a chair at them, but I want to play as a detective, not a psychopath. But really, are you playing as a detective? A detective asks people questions, a detective tries to follow the law, in this game your only option is breaking and entering. When trying to question NPCs you have a laughably limited amount of options and they apply to every character in the game, you can't bring up evidence, intimidate or even mention you're investigating a murder. You get your cases from city hall, but have to resort to crime. The description states "play your own way" but in reality there are, and i'm being extremely generous here, two playstyles in the entire game: tedious, janky, broken stealth with NPCs that do instant 180 pivots and somehow always seem to know which room you're in while you point your fingerprint detector at every surface on the planet, or just act like a total psychopath and smash the door down, stab the occupants then search to your heart's content, occasionally re-stabbing them when they wake up from their non-lethal stab to the neck, because that's what detectives do, right? Do not buy, do not play, and if someone gifts you this game they're doing it because they hate you.

HITMAN - Game of The Year Edition

Shouldn't be on gog.

Unless the developers remove the online requirement for basic stuff such as scoring and unlocking upgrades, which they won't, this game should not be on gog's 'drm free' store. There is also zero point in ever buying this version of the game because the latest Hitman game has all the maps from this one and Hitman 2, while buying on gog gives none of the usual advantages, just get Hitman 3 on steam.

Broforce

Short & Sweet

This game is just pure fun throughout. The controls and gameplay are easy to learn, even if you aren't amused by the 80s action hero theme the characters are still all fun as hell to play and unique, although some stand out more than others, and most importantly it's a total blast to play co-op. Unfortunately it's kinda short for the (non-sale) price and having more Bros to unlock would increase the replay value (one playthrough in 2 player and we unlocked all of the characters) but there is almost infinite fun to be had just drinking beer and dispensing freedom with some of your own bros.

Death to Spies: Moment of Truth

WW2 Hitman, and so much more

This game is just fantastic, If you love open-ended stealth games this is a must-buy. As in the Hitman series you can don a multitude of disguises and dispose of your enemies in creative ways, but the game also has robust mechanics allowing for almost any approach, for one this game did 'vehicle stealth' way before Metal Gear. Unfortunately the game has the expected amount of bugs from an ambitious title with a low budget, but this is one of the best stealth games I have ever played and the current price on GOG is a steal, if you're a fan of stealth games and you've never tried this, don't hesitate to buy it now.

D4: Dark Dreams Don't Die - Season One

SWERY strikes again

Just a short, spoilerless review. The port is OK although bare-bones, also seems to have a memory leak, playing for several hours had it using more than 10gb of RAM which might explain why it has performance issues. The game itself is fantastic, a mix of point and click, shenmue and heavy rain but blowing all of those out of the water with the totally absurd yet somehow intriguing characters and plot. The mini-games fall short, but i found the quicktime sequences fun due to the amazing choreography and the Boston-punk soundtrack that plays when shit gets real. The music in the game is also great and I wish GoG had included a soundtrack. The only real flaw is chapter 2 is clearly rushed and lasts much less than chapter 2. Personally I find the stamina mechanic fun but it still seems like a strange choice in a game like this, although it at least justifies filling the protagonist with tequila and hamburgers. All in all it's a great game, I just hope it sells enough for a sequel as the ending is frustrating to say the least.
