Sacrifice

Best game I've ever played

It's been nearly 20 years and this is still the bext game I've ever played. Ubique gameplay - TPP RTS, sort of similar to which I've only seen in Mount&Blade. Hoverver, in Sacrifice the units are way more varied and you are not playing as just a buffed-up version of one of your soldiers, but as a wizzard, and you get to whield some of the most interesting and spectacular spells ever. Great atmosphere - honestly, there are a few games that feel remotely as good Non-linear story - the story is uniquely told from the endgame perspective - your character is taking a stroll with one of the important NPCs through the landscape resulting from the events of the game and tells them how it came to be, and you play those "stories". Before each mission you choose which god you will serve and they each have a diffrent mission, new unit and new spell AND have a significantly diffrent impact on the story. Seriously, this is more non-linear that Mars Effect (note: I only played 1 & 2) Souls mechanic - Each units costs you souls to summon, the only way you get more of them is to convert fallen enemies before the enemy wizzard can get to them - then you get 1 they loose one. Is it a runaway snowball mechanic? Yes, the only thing what is balancing it out is the friendly fire - the afore mentioned magic system is so destructive it must be used very carefoully not to kill half of your own army, but if you have far less troops - well - that makes things easier. And there is friendly fire between units as well, so if you don't manage thm well thy'll kill one another as well. With all this it is very satisfying to snowball AI, which was bullying you in early game in the campain and there is also multiplayer - which I've heard is good, but sadly haven't had a chance to play it much myself.
