Expectations carry an expensive toll, so I stayed away from the hype. On Day One I came into the game open and ready to experience it as it was. And I was lucky. No major glitches on my system. I've never been shot up into the air from a ladder. Cars never rammed into the barrier outside my apartment. The game only rarely crashed (seriously: maybe six times in the, I donno - two hundred hours I've put into the game? Lucky.). I love the voice acting. I love the dialogue. I love Night City and its labyrinthian mystery. While the objects of side quests are not varied (I've never heard this NOT complained about in games that heavily feature side quests) the stories that accompany those side quests ARE varied. Interesting. Even surprising sometimes. I enjoy the combat, I have no problem with the default keyboard layout even though it's weird. I love finding weapons (so many weapons) that I love. I very much enjoy seeing how this piece of tech put into my pistol will interact with that thingy the ripper doc installed in my head a while back. The most annoying things have been patched, I hear (though I'd still love to have interrupting phone calls not remove my ability to jump). Yeah, stuff is weird here in Night City. In all sorts of ways: by design, and by ... oops! But there is a LOT to like, experience, and enjoy about this game. The weird controls, the interesting stories, the fun combat, the great weapons, the diverse areas of Night City and the surrounding areas ... well, truth is ... I love it. I love this game. And I can't wait for more ... fixes, sure ... but DLC, new stories, new characters, new stuff to shoot. I get that I'm in the minority here, and I get that yes there are things that could be improved - even vastly improved - in this (uh ... and every other ) game (ever made) ... but if any of the above sounds interesting to you - buy it. It's been worth the $60 I paid on day one, and I'll spend more on any forthcoming DLC.
I supported this game early one, and played little bits here and there as it was updated. I always knew it was going to work. The attention to detail, the warmth of the visual presentiation, the music, even the names of each individual inhabitants of the town ... just charming. And relaxing. And challenging. Now, with its early access release, I actually paid for it again instead of using my key. Just to support the developer, to help ensure that this delightful journey continues. Even with the occasional crash, the intended features that just aren't there yet, this game satisfies at every level. All the fixes, all the new stuff that is coming .... just icing on the cake. This game is already worth it. Super job, much respect, and can't wait for more!
