Project Eden

Nice find, GoG!

Although this game is not very well known, I recommend it. It's a very unique game of quality, a rare gem. Sadly I almost forgot about it since I played it years ago as a child, but thanks to GoG I'm looking forward to play it as an adult. It 's a challenging game, if I remember correctly, and I really like those.

Neverwinter Nights Diamond

The beginning of the new era

I had high expectations for this game, since Bioware developed Baldur's Gate. In fact, Neverwinter Nights was disappointing for me. Sure, it has a cool 3D environment, but I always felt the single-player experience too empty, boring and uninspiring. I didn't find the story interesting, and the gameplay was simply a repetitive hack'n'slash boredom. And then I looked at the multiplayer-mode, and I was absolutely convinced, that this is the most immersive and fun game I could ever play. And then the expansions came with a bit better single-player campaigns, so Neverwinter Nights begun to be really good. For 10 bucks it's a great buy for a rich game experience, but it started the end of classic CRPG-era, since it focuses on multiplayer & mods, and well... it's not nearly as good as BG 1-2. But probably I shouldn't compare them.

Outcast 1.1

The best science-fiction game ever!

In 1999, this game knew everything that makes the newest Bioware RPG-s a hit: it had a huge world, you could collect resources, have long, dramatic and funny dialogues in a cinematic quality, you could upgrade your weapons, complete quests and so on... and it was never called an "RPG". The story and the characters are superb and it is possible that Outcast has the finest screenplay in gaming history. The protagonist is a military guy, but far from an average one, his lines are hilarious, and how he deals with the problems, is just exciting and right. As for the storyline - it has the most clever twists and turns involving the clichéd "hero from prophecies versus evil emperor" that is so well explained with a science-fiction twist that it literally took my breath away. And suddenly it wasn't a cliché anymore, it was a mindblowing way of world-building. Only comparable to the best novels in SF&F, Outcast shows that games can be as good as movies and books. We can relate to this world as well to the protagonist, we can feel the pain of the talan, and this great motivation makes this game unforgettable. Only graphics are outdated - art direction, music and gameplay remained first class, even if we compare to recent games. It's a real shame that their developers went bankrupt. Outcast is one of the best games in the universe, and I would recommend to every game developer to see what can be achieved.

Two Worlds Epic Edition

Familiar

I'm usually satisfied with the games that appear on GoG, but this one really surprised me, since Two Wolds is neither a good nor an old game. Actually, it's a pretty clichéd Role Playing Game from 2007 in the tradition of Oblivion and Gothic - where tradition equals a complete ripoff with average execution. However, this Epic Edition might worth it's price, since it contains two expansions and hopefully it's not as glitchy as the original edition. What you'll get for this price is a huge world with nearly 100 hours of gameplay in a familiar (thus completely unoriginal) fantasy setting. But, apart from that and the odd glitches, sometimes it's quite intuitive and enjoyable. You might not like it if you're a hardcore RPG-fan (like me), but with the setting being familiar and the gameplay being action-packed, it has its mainstream charm. As an avid RPG collector, I think some day I'm going to buy this edition, but still it's not the first on my list.
