By the time Love for Sail! rolled out, the Leisure Suit Larry series had already cemented its reputation: lowbrow humor wrapped around classic Sierra-style point-and-click adventuring. If you’ve played one, you more or less know the secret sauce; plenty of raunchy jokes, awkward innuendo, and puzzles that lean more toward the obtuse than the intuitive. This entry doubles down on that formula. Imagine The Aristocrats joke rewritten by software engineers, then stretched into an entire game. The result is bawdy, sophomoric, and often groan-worthy, but that’s part of the charm of it. There are moments of greatness in the absurdity, and the hand-drawn art and fantastic voice acting give it flair, but the humor rarely rises above wink-wink smirking, and the puzzles can feel like exercises in frustration rather than clever design. All you really need to know is that the sidequest is collecting a marital aid. For newcomers, though, the humor may wear thin, and the gameplay won’t win over anyone not already fond of Sierra’s brand of point-and-click masochism.
