I don’t get all the hype. This game is okay-ish, but its controls aren’t great (and you might have to use antimicro to play with your gamepad too), the music and graphics are depressing, there is a lot of grind (enemies repop and you have to kill them again and again to earn money to buy stuff), and having to go back to your fantom after you die from a far-away checkpoint (sometimes not even knowing where to go because you don’t have the map) is extremely tedious. Also you have no idea where you need to go next so there is a lot of going back and forth doing the same things repetitively. There isn’t even any story. I enjoyed it for a while but I had to follow walkthroughs a few times and the grind and far-away checkpoints killed it for me. I stopped playing after a few hours.
With a gamepad the character often stops moving when you’re not pushing the stick in the exact direction the game wants. This is a real problem in this game when you’re trying to jump on moving platforms or avoid traps. It’s crazy the devs never fixed this after all the time that has pasted since release. If the game was playable then I would actually enjoy it… It has a nice retro feel to it and not-too-difficult puzzles (up to the point I played). Too bad.
I just cannot figure out how to play this game. For the longest time it showed me a screen telling me to "press A" and I couldn’t get past it either using the keyboard or my gamepad. Then now it tells me to "press X", which works when I press X on my keyboard, but I want to play with a gamepad. My dualshock 4 is not recognized by the game whether I use ds4drv or not. Games should have proper input support out of the box for at least the most common input controllers (and not just the xbox360 gamepad). I already spend my week debugging things, I want games to just work, thank you. Also the developer does not read the GOG forum for the game... (sure, the GOG forums are shit and have no notifications, but if it’s your job you should check them regularly anyway…)
