Started playing video games with Pong (monochrome CRTs, analogue controllers, etc), and I'm still gaming every now and then (like once or twice a week). There never was and I expect there never will be a game as addictive as Heroes3. I've spent countless hours playing thru the campaigns and in fact I had to learn how to build my own coax cable network, just to play with my friends at the university campus. I bought my first 32bit computer partially because of this game (well, also for Matlab and Linux, but I suspect H3 took the most of my CPU time and was kind of responsible for my not so great exam scores at some point ;) I've been wondering what was so great about it, and I think I know now. This game is like chess - tactics&strategy, blitz openings and endspiel full of tension. Heck, look at the disproportionate figures of the characters - yes, it IS chess!
