I have loved Lighthouse since the day it came out in the 90s. It is a Myst-Like game, where you are tasked with finding out what happened and save some people. The game has many puzzles, some can be kind of confusing, but the puzzles are there and they seem to work find in the Universe created. The audio is pretty good for the time of release. Many cool sounds can be heard bringing the world to life. The visuals are nice for the time. This is a 90s Sierra classic game people, so of course there not going to be in par with Riven or today's standards. The game has 7 locations to explore... each with a 'piece' you have to collect, so you do have to visit each one. (The submarine location is the hardest, 2nd hardest is the Volcano maze) There isnt much information or direction in the game really, so it is harder to explore and know what you are suppose to be doing. I am currently playing the game with the physical CD-ROMS (came with 2, so your constantly 'switching' between discs, I am glad they came out with a digital release though, FINALLY. Love the nostalgia this game brings back to the table. Next game should be Amber:Journeys Beyond.
This game is fantastic! This is the sequel to Samorost, and this time, you have two parts in this game. The first part is where aliens from another planet come and steal your dog. So Gnome goes off to the alien planet and rescues his dog. In the second part of the game, you have to get back home, after your spaceship crashes. You guide the Gnome character via point and click style like the first game, and most of the developers other games, such as Botanicula and Machinarium. This game is not hard at all, it is short, but longer than the first game in the series. The soundtrack is fantastic, it is very atmospheric and goes well with each level. You will meet very cool characters along the way, solve puzzles, and can interact with the environment. The visuals of this game are top notch, aged pretty well being this is a 10 year old game. Very organic, surreal artwork, fantastic audio, simple controls, this is a must buy.
This game is an excellent city building game, sort of like Sim City, but in Egyptian style and way more immersive. You really feel connected to the people of your village you create. The goal depends on the mission scenario you are in, but mostly, building a city from scratch, and creating a empire that reigns supreme. This version comes with the expansion pack Cleopatra and other goodies too. The soundtrack is amazing, and the visuals still hold up in modern times. The game runs on modern machines, Windows 7 and 64 bit versions, the game does run "fast" in speed settings upon launch, but lowering it down fixes that in the options in-game. You can even play in sand-box mode, where there are no missions and you just build your own city on a large map. This game will suck you in, and hours will pass on by.
Riven is the sequel to Myst, and this version doesn't have that pesky "please insert Disc #2" stuff. Anyways, Riven, is set right after the events of Myst, and you must travel to the age of Riven to rescue Atrus's Wife Catherine from his father Gehn. This game looks just as beautiful as it did in the past, aged very well. (This game also works in Windows 7 64-bit, as I have it running flawlessly, just has one save issue bug that is easily fixed in 2 min.) Riven places you on this beautiful age, with blue sky's, oceans all around, beautiful sounds and visuals. Each scene is beautiful, even today. You play using your mouse via point and click like the original Myst game, and the puzzles are put into the world so well, you really think they are there, it is so life-like. Also, the puzzles are harder than Myst's puzzles, and a few of them will be hair pulling, but the payload at the end of the game is worth it. The story-line is well done too, it has all the history and whatnot in the game so well written and put, you feel attached to the people that live on Riven, and there are several endings as well, one main good ending, and the rest bad, which adds some end game climax too, if you choose the wrong path and end it not how your suppose to. I would recommend this game because of the beautiful visuals, great soundtrack and sounds in the age, the classic Myst point and click movement and the nostalgia that comes with it.
This is the same game (more of less) that came out back in the old days when CD-ROM just was launching on PC. This version of Myst is a 3D remake of the original. The best part of this game is that not only do you get all the original goodness of Myst, but Real Myst also adds a lot of cool new features: 1. Day and night cycles to the ages, something that wasn't done with the original. Makes it more real. 2. Added the gravesite on Myst Island for the Grandmother near the cabin. 3. Added a new age, to keep up with the storyline of Myst, new age called Rime! 4. Able to walk around freely in 3D instead of point and click as the original. This game takes you back, all the original ages have been recreated well, the sound effects and visuals make it more lifelike, like if you are really walking around Channelwood or another age. A lot of people have had issues getting this to work on newer machines and 64-bit machines, but I purchased this game, and I can tell you, it works on 64-bit machines and Windows 7. You just need to change a few settings, (which is easy) and it works, takes about 2 min to do. I love this game, reading all the journals and seeing the actors in this game come to life, and re-living Myst all over again, well worth the purchase!
