I loved DOS2 and I loved the original BG games. Do I love this then? Well, I don't know yet. It has a lot of potential but it seems to be missing something. It doesn't feel like a Baldur's Gate game, it feels much more like DOS3 in "sort of" Faerun. The gameplay is fantastic. I'm someone who played D&D in 1st and 2nd Editions but I'm not familiar with the later rules. I've no idea how authentic it is but it is fun. The only thing I think this needs to improve on is the general feel of the world. It just doesn't sit quite right for me. Maybe this will improve in the later acts, I'm keen to find out.
I've got this on CD (I think I have it twice on CD) and I only recently (3 days ago) purchased it on another online game delivery service. If I knew this was coming to GOG I'd a baked a cake, no sorry, I would have bought it here. This is in my mind the greatest of the Elder Scrolls games. It is a fantasy RPG in a world that just feels unique. No wizards with pointy hats and generic fantasy tropes here. It is also a game that I keep on coming back to time and time again. The modding community is fantastic and it is amazing how good this can look now with the right mods in place. Give it a go, you won't regret it.
I bought this on the day of it's original release. WOW - what a letdown. I felt it was turgid and uninvolving. MOO 1&2 were great this was just awful.
