The game is visually beautiful. It looks like a picture book that was made with a lot of love and care for details. I found myself fascinated by the fact that the emotions of the characters are so clear to read all the time even though they have no visible mouth or nose - it's all in the eyes and the posture I guess. The picturesque backgrounds and even the - sometimes animated - foreground make the game very immersive. The gameplay is what one expects. It's a 2D platformer with fighting and puzzles. I found the enemies quite hard (annoying) sometimes. Especially in the beginning I wished I would just have one life point more. It also took me longer than most to beat the game, 14 hours. The extraordinary thing about this game -- that you control three characters concurrently -- was a mixed experience for me. It's mainly used for puzzles that can only be solved by having the siblings work together. The solution is usually quite obvious and not so hard to execute; and I found this very enjoyable and rewarding. For the parts where they all were together, I found it a bit of an extra burden to keep them in sync when running and jumping. But the characters look so ... almost adorable, particularly thanks to the great animation, that it's worth the extra control effort. Effective switching between the characters during fights however, I found nay impossible. Thankfully there is a setting that the ones you don't control cannot die. It's an essential part of the story -- and the learning curve I guess -- that the older sister and brother only join Greak later in the game but I can't help but think this would have made an excellent couch coop game. Talking about story, it is rather motivating and touching. I actually found it strange that there is so much lore thrown around (in dialogs, books, etc.) that the sheer amount of names of people and places gave off the vibes of an 80 hours RPG while the game was over so soon. All in all it has left me waiting for a second part.
