I'm having a great time with this game. Granted the new graphics filter looks a bit weird to someone who played the original game. So guess what? I just turned it back to the classic settings with classic aspect ratio. Looks perfect to me. I think the audio and music sounds better too and the biggest annoyance of the original game was pixel hunting. Now if you want to, you can just press SPACE and it highlights all of the interactive objects without luck or tedium involved. Big thumbs up. Bought the 2nd game too
Wow it's just amazing now! Controller support and just wait until you go outside for the first time! Big grin on my face. Fully 3D now with permanently centred camera, no more hammering the enter button to get a better view. This game has never been so good
I had this game when it first came out and had countless hours of fun playing this. The GOG release is pretty good, but kind of annoying you have to figure out how to get it working properly. Dunno if it was because they were having copyright issues with the soundtrack or what. Bonkers that it doesn't work from initial installation. 1/Go to game installation folder and run nglide_config 2/Whack res up to whatever you desire 3/Rename _winmm.dll to winmm.dll 4/Copy OGG files to the MUSIC directory from this zip: https://www.quaddicted.com/files/music/quake_campaign_soundtrack.zip Launch game as normal and it should be running just fine. Good times folks, good times. Many thanks to users MrEWhite & Cadaver747. You, sirs are legends
Sorry, I don't think this is for me. This is a very simple game and the cool music, sound effects and lighting cannot detract from how quickly this can get quite dull. I saw the GGGManlives review and did an insta-buy as it did look quite cool, but there are too many annoyances for me. 1/ The die-you-gotta-start-from-the-beginning issue. (Game isn't too difficult, but dynamite/explosion deaths can get you) 2/ The Doom 3 torch/gun toggle where you can't have both. (You literally can't even see which gun you're holding at times) 3/ The tacked on perk system 4/ The magic system where I can't be bothered to grind half way through the game to find some spell that's half-decent 5/ The horrible, horrible mini map which is so pointless. A large map with colour coded doors and switch icons could really speed up the action. Lotta backtracking/aimless wondering at some points. 6/ You can look up and down, but not much point. You can't jump or climb, so it's just walk, strafe, walk strafe, press button, repeat Respect to the devs for the hard work that's obviously gone into this, but am going to park this game until there's some serious patching/modding done
