Warhammer 40,000: Boltgun

solid

Absolutley solid game. I played on the 2nd hardest difficulty. The gunplay is what immediately stands out amongst a myriad of boomer shooters with no depth, no weight and no grit to the essential combat rythym. The starter weapon "the bolter" maintains its usefullness throughout the entire campaign. Its low tier enemy shredding capabilities and satisfying sound contribute to the winning formula that is Boltgun's combat. The overall feel, sound, and impact of the gameplay alone make this game. Every weapon is impactful and useful in specific circumstance. However, the level design itself is severly lacking. Convoluted levels, ammo and health drops sporadically dropped into copy pasted labryinths. Color Coded Key hunts and lazily designed environments that blend into a mesh of AI genereated Warhammer prompts. You will fight the same boss countless times. They didn't even bother to make something special for the final boss. The same sorcerer you have faced multiple times with 3 phases... ultimately, lazy uninspired level design and limited enemy vareity are a slap in the face to the devs that made the combat and gunpay so satisfying.
