I didn't know this game was roguelite, but I'm glad I bought it. I love that this game actually has a story. Not overwhelming, but savory pieces delivered here and there. Enough for you to connect with the characters. Absolutely worth the money. If you are cheap with games like me, you can wait for sale. But I do think you could make an exception with this one, it's a gem. Watch gameplay and be the judge.
Holy hell. The gameplay itself is pretty generic everyday JRPG. Nothing new to add. But the story is where I was cringing the much of the time. This game is clearly made for young teenagers. If you like teen romance and thin story underneath, all yours.
Good story, but as a game I did not find it fun. It's more or less a pixelated walking simulation. The story and music are the traits that everyone praises, for good reasons. However my overall experience was that this could have been much better as a movie or book, but not so much as a game. I'm aware that I'm in the minority, but I don't believe the game really enhanced the story for me.
Let me begin by saying that I hate platformers. Never liked them. I did enjoy playing Mario a little bit but never got into it even as a child. I do however appreciate a well made game, and Cuphead, if anything, is a well made game. I bought it and am enjoying it mostly for its creativity, not for the platforming itself. I play it so that I can explore all the artistry that went into this game. I can't imagine the amount of work, creativity and love that went into this work of art.
This will be the third time I'm purchasing this game. Back in the 90's, then once again on eBay which I still have, and now a digital copy via GOG just for the hell of it. Yes, the graphic is seriously dated, but the gameplay is of master quality. I warn you though, the game is very difficult to modern standards. Others have commented enough so I'll leave it at that, but if you can get past the dated graphics I'm sure it'll open your eyes.
