Rebel Galaxy

Escape Velocity for the current day

Back in the late 90s I played Escape Velocity and loved it. For about 20 years I have been looking for a game to scratch that itch andf I have finally found it. So many other games have part of the core game play or have taken it and significantly overcomnplicated it. Rebel Galaxy takes what EV offered and upgrades the graphics and interface into something more fitting of today and doesn't try to do anything crazy with it. In Rebel Galaxy you get a ship and are essentially sent out on your own to make your own destiny. Sure, there is a main quest, but it's more flavoring to the core game than it is directing it. The core game is taking on missions for factions, fighting other ships, trading, and upgrading your ship. It keeps itself really simple (though the economy can be aggravating sometimes) and lets you really dig into the core gameplay instead of overwhelming you with tons of extra mechanics and systems. I do wish there were a bit more ships to choose from and I think having the faction ships be more unique and differentiated from each other would make the game a little better, but it's still a fun experience and well worth the price. My personal guidleine for a good game is an hour played for every doillar spent, and this game will easily beat that.
