BIOMUTANT

Underrated gem

I played about 12 Hours to this point. The game itself is actually pretty awesome. After the first few hours the game really starts to unfold. Awesome world, cool ideas, many things to do and see. The weapon crafting feature alone is so crazy, you don't want to miss it. There are also many vibes from games like Zelda:BotW, Beyond Good & Evil, Batman Arkham Series and many more. The combat needs some balancing, but this will probably patched shortly. This game is a gem from a small studio, that really put a lot of effort and took risks. Don't let the negative reviews mislead you into thinking this is a bad game. It is certainly not, it is just something different and special. Precisely the definition of an underrated gem. I really hope that there will be a sequel. I really recommend playing it yourself and keep playing at least 5-10 hours, to see if this is a game you like or not.

Pumpkin Jack

A surprise to be sure, but a welcome one

I just entered the last level. And I can't wait to finish the game. First I want to acknowledge the many references to Archer/Marvel/StarWars(Level 5 Cantina Band?) and so many more. Really cool. The dev and I seem to share the same sense of humour. The game itself is a really cool 3D platformer that feels like the games from the early 2000s and also makes me feel like I am ten years old again (good times, good times). Really reminds me of Medievil, Spyro, Crash Bandicoot, Sly Cooper...you name it. Could be the nostalgia writing this, but let's get to the the details: The gameplay is just awesome. Minor flaws that will be patched probably. But controls and gameplay loop are easy to pick up but the game is still challenging in a way. Didn't have that much fun in a long time. Story is cool. Not too deep and not to shallow. Just right for a game like this. Soundtrack is also pretty awesome. Many classic themes ported into an interesting halloween version. Of course the game is too short to have a big array of different tracks. But it is more than enough here. Graphics are stylized and really fit perfectly for the game. The dev really uses light and shadow to create a Halloween worthy atmosphere. Speaking of atmosphere: I can't describe how he pulled it off, but the halloween-spooky thing is nailed here. There are very few bugs. The game runs really well (a few FPS drops here and there, but most the time 60FPS+) on an i5 from 2013 and an RX570 4GB (no not my main rig). Apart from that I did not have any sort of problems. Respect to the dev! I really wish the game was much longer and I hope there will be more content (DLCs/Episodes/Addons/Successor -> give me an open world like in the Sly Cooper games). There is so much that could be done here. Right now if you're not a die hard platformer fan, Pumpkin Jack could be a bit pricey for the current content (depending on your region) but I think it is totally worth it. If you do not buy it now, definitely get it on sale.
