This game has good fundations (despite player being forced into same looking room over room over room), but randomness at the later stages of the game is just killing all the fun. I quit after the following happens 4 times in the row at the start of the same level: 1) I spawn. 2) I enter the first room. 3) Red spawning crystals show up. 4) Doors lock behind me. 5) I fight. 6) I run out of the ammo for my starting weapon. 7) I die. 8) Go to point 1. That's just… not fun. It would be better if player would be able to keep every weapon currently equipped in slot, so at least I could carry something using separate type of ammo, but right now this game is unplayable for me.
Nothing in this game is new or unique, you have all seen this before. Weapons and gameplay mechanics are ripped off from other shooters. However, it works in the context of a dream and is pretty well put together. Runs well, and plays well. The overall design is disturbing. The best/worst are the enemy designs that not only look horrible but also all have unique and annoying abilities. It's hard to criticize anything in this game, really. It is uninspired, sure, but a shockingly well-executed game.
Honestly, I can't figure out a bad thing to say about this game. Combat is great, the level design is visually stunning, atmospheric, and interesting. Weapons are useful (even the week ones, even the starting melee weapon is actually pretty good for cutting down weak opponents). Perhaps the only aspect of the game that is less than ideal is the enemy variety. Overall, I really like this game and can't recommend it enough.
