The Legend of Kyrandia: Hand of Fate (Book Two)

The worst voice acting ever!

I remember loving this game as a kid... when I played it on my 386 however, it was the floppy disk version. Having now heard the CD version for the first time I have to say this is the worst voice acting I've ever heard on a video game! It makes a surprising amount of difference - I remember chuckling at the 'humour' when I first played it, but this time around I just couldn't crack a smile. It's just... laboured. I guess it was a product of its time, but I'm sure other PAC adventures managed much better. Overall, I really don't think HOF has aged well. I can play games like Monkey Island through again and again, and always be delighted by the dialogue and story progression. HOF left me cold I'm sorry to say. The story line bored me - I completed the game as a kid but I could only get half way through this time and I just didn't care enough to get to the end. The puzzles aren't too bad - they're not nonsensical like a lot of PAC adventures, but you do have a tendancy to think you're solving one puzzle, only to find out you were actually doing something else. Hard to explain without spoilers, but you'll be searching for something for its logical use and by the time you've found it, the need for it will have changed. I'll still give it three stars as I have fond memories of my original playthrough, but if you're looking for PAC there's a whole host of better games out there.
