Frostpunk 2 - Deluxe Edition

Pretty at the Expense of Gameplay

It seems that every sequel sim game goes for "pretty" over functionality. The graphics are gorgeous, but the UI feels clunky. In Frostpunk, you could switch between a class of building easily. In this one, you are trying to work between "districts" (which have a pretty weird assignment of stats), with no way to quickly select or see all of a given type. There's no economy overview that gives you solid numbers vs how many districts you have. The restriction of the "heat tiles", and the extremely slow increase of those, even on the easiest settings, makes it impossible to ever stay ahead of wants or needs. The assignment of number of workers (400 to build a single set of buildings? 600, even? 400 to run it, and it makes 40 items a day? Really? ) makes sword weights in Skyrim look realistic. All times being measured in "weeks" is off-putting and while some of it may be accurate, it's still a lot longer than it needs to be. Better resource weighting would help, perhaps. I had been looking forward to this game. (Not "take week off from work for the release of Wrath of the Lich King" excited for it, but I've been looking forward to it.) I'm not sure I'll finish the story line.
