DOOM + DOOM II

Doom is Doom

Doom is one of the greatest games ever made, and 30+ years latter the modding scene has ensures it never gets stale. This game is still amazing to play. Doom is Eternal.

The Colonists

A Well done Village Builder

Been playing this a lot recently and I think it is pretty underrated. Taking it's ques from Settlers, it is in a way, a spiritual squeal. Now a "spiritual squeal" can easily just be a rip off, but there is enough new ideas here to really set this apart, yet still have it appeal to the gamer that really liked those old settlers games. The game’s theme is actually pretty abstracted. There are scifi elements in the setup story and even though you are looking at little robots, the game could really could have any theme applied. The scifi aesthetic is just a cute artistic choice. The game is focused on a level based campaign, again think Settlers. There combat in this game as a kind of tower defense subgame occurs on the outer borders between villages. The goal is to destroy their outpost and build your own, thus reducing their territory and expanding your own. This is not a RTS though, and while the combat is amusing and fun, it is not engrossing or particularly difficult. It is really just an addition layer to the tasks you are manageing. The rest of the gameplay is standard production pipelines and unit happiness management. You research technology to build more complex buildings, gain access to more base materials and the creation of items from those resources. I think one of the things I like the most in the innovative pathing system. Much of the game is based around how you handle the paths. Each road has nodes, and between them is a little carry robot guy. They transport goods from one node to the other, but only those two nodes. There is a 2nd style of road called a path that act more like traditional roads in a city builder. It is a interesting puzzle and probably most importantly behaves exactly how it should. This isn't PlanetBase where you are yelling at your sims for dying of starvation when there is 500 tons of food in storage. All in all this is a great game imo and well worth your time! VERDICT : AWESOME
