Firstly, I'd like to note that I've had gwent account since its beta, just didn't have time at the start of it to really play with dedication. I came back to it in hopes to stay, but that's not meant to be, it seems. I love witcher games, love CDPR. I really liked GWENT music, art, general feel of the game, BUT I have to give it 2 stars. Firstly, it's insanely slow paced. 15 min per match at starter ranks with opponent seemingly "ropig" for hell of it rather than making real choices is ggravating and is really not enjoyable at all. Secondly, game is unnecessarily over-complicated with no proper tutorial whatsoever. It doesn't explain what to do, how insane amount of mechanics work, or round and their intricacies. Take it from MTGA, they made a tutorial that guides you through each starter deck and you get to experience what the deck is supposed to do, how cards are supposed to behave and so on. Game as complex as GWENT really needs it. I think i'm done for good with this game, a shame really, just as I started to get good at it primarily because of how slow it is. THirdly, iOS app needs work as well, especially because it cross-play with PC, so in addition to slow opponents, it's really annoying to see that your opponent also disconnected. I wanna love this game, i'd love to invest in it more, but not the way it is - no tutroial, slow as hell and broken server connections...
I am new to the PoE franchise and haven't played the first game, so getting into the lore takes some time, but ultimately, I love the experience so far. Music, visuals, party banters are spot on, I like that all in-game lore references are highlighted and give a short descriprion of what they mean. There are still some mechanics I am struggling with but it's all a part of a learning curve when one delves into a new world with its own bells and whistles! It would be 5/5 if there was a bit more open world exploration akin to Divinity Original Sin 2 as well as fully voiced narrator.
Let me say this - I don't like games with the same gameplay clickity mechanics, but this game stands as an exception. I was very sceptic about this game, but since I like Witcher universe and chose to give the game benefit of a doubt. I am not a good Gwent player, and I frankly though I will not like it. Boy, was I wrong! I started playing and I fell in love with it. The main star of the game is, naturally, the story. It's absolutely amazing! I like the puzzles that sometimes can be pretty hard, but I still like them because the add variety to the flow of the gameplay. Also, I like they are optional on easier difficulty. I really like tactical approach of improving your camp, it adds additional flavor. I highly recommend the game, even if you don't like Gwent, trust me, storytelling is worth it. The only aspects I wish were different are: - prosgressive save - c'mon, CDPR, seriously? It's incredibly annoying, especially when next point below is taken into consoderation; - misclicking can ruin your experience in a dialogue sequence. I wish dialogues had pages so that one could go back and read what they accidentally misclicked. Otherwise game is great! I really hope to see more of similar installments from the devs. I give it 4 stars, would have been five if it were not for the contra aspects.
I have no idea, no idea why people are raving about this game. It's definitely NOT the best game in Fallout franchise by a long shot. It's on the level with FO3 albeit with a few minor improvements. It's boring in terms of locations, story is pretty straightforward and doesn't stand out from any other games of the series. The game asa whole feels utterly detached from the main story of the Fallout franchise, a lot of going back and forth during quests "go there, bring this, then go elsewhere and bring smth elese" which is boring, all factions are equally horrible so no matter what you choose, future is as dark and train tunnel. Also, NO EXPLORATION after main campaign is over, game forces you to roll back a save. Are you serious? I don't get to explore the world my actions have created? What's the bloody point then? Also, one has to roll back a save to do DLCs or do them during the main story, because that totally makes sense... NOT! All in all, reality of this game vs the hype fanboys are trying to build is underwhelming. Good deal for ult edition but then you are pretty overpowered with all the gear you get right off the bet. Not impressed, and I have expected more from the experience
... it crashes. A lot. While I enjoy gameplay, and the mechanics aren't as bas as some paint them to be, but the game crashes on Win7 and very often at that. Luckily I quicksave the game after some major discoveries, but it still doesn't help. I really appreciate GOG's effort to make this game play on Wi7 and higher (smth Steam sdoesn't have). I will keep the game and will play it, but its often CTDs force my hand to give this game only a 3-star review.
