Emperor of the Fading Suns Enhanced

My all-time favorite.

Tell me where you can find a game anywhere else that you can research forbidden technologies to turn corpses into super soldiers, go to war with the church, your competing houses and both alien menaces at once and then reconquer earth and capture and convert a church inquisitor in lost-tech battle armor to lead your Grimson Legions. It has warts no doubt, but the scale and richness of the game is enormous. This game needs a reboot, and truly deserves it.

Outcast 1.1

just imagine -

A game where you chuckle at the main character's own frustration and realistic reactions to being dropped into an alien 'third world guerrilla action'. You start out alone, untrusted and poorly armed and have to commit acts of terrorism, subterfuge and hit and run to weaken an overwhelming enemy and gain the trust of a population. The civilian AI in this game is an order of magnitude above and beyond anything done since, with npcs that communicate and react to the situation. They have a language and you can overhear them talking about things they have heard about and seen. You start the game with a terrified population that will betray you to the guards, and by the end of the game you are hunting down enemy stragglers on (horse)back with the civilians pointing them out to you. This game is one of the best, by far. It's a must-play.

Hilarity Ensues

Not only is this game everything the other reviewers say, but it's got whole dialogue trees for some things you wouldn't expect. If you start your character out with low intelligence, the entire game is shaped around that with new options and responses. I am taking off a star on purpose from this otherwise awesome game, because technology has (or had) some serious issues - including end-game enemies literally dodging bullets constantly. If you do play, go magic. That's all I'm going to say about that.

The gold standard of RPGs

From the enjoyable NPCs to the engrossing storyline, interesting items to the reasonable character advancement - BG2 is one of the all time greats for any RPG, but on top of this it is also great multiplayer. This is a must-have and must-play.
