Dark Quest 2 has definite vibes of Hero Quest, not particularly hard but it does ramp up in difficulty. Has a charming but limited village where you get ready between dungeons, a basic choose your next dungeon map screen and the dungeons with their turn based combat and exploration are simple but fun. It does lack (m)any keyboard controls so you will find yourself mis clicking on the dungeon board and sending an vulnerable character out of your defensive formation and straight into the enemy to get isolated and ganged up on. (enemy AI is simple, they move towards/ attack the closest target.) Whilst it starts easy you will not have enough gold/ skill potions by late game if you only do each dungeon once. If you’re playing this on GoG you won’t have access to custom maps via Steam Workshop so you will have to grind some maps you have done earlier – The Passage, any map with Goblin in title or description are good ones to redo. There are definitely better hero combos than others but you can make most chars work as long as you have a decent composition for the map. Dark Monk is raved about and starts off very strong but imo he’s replaced in the late game by ranged chars (archer, Wizard) or characters that bring healing, buffs and/or battlefield disruption (Dwarf, Knight). I never had much success with the Barbarian as he doesn’t have healing or aoe abilities, doesn’t have battlefield control instead just attacking 1 target admittedly pretty hard and he doesn’t last long if he’s frontline (and he’s melee so it’s hard not to have him taking hits). He does have a role on some caster heavy maps and I imagine he is pretty handy on the last map. Anyways this is a decent game that’s pretty cheap, its basic, but for the money you’ll get a decent 10ish hours game of dungeon exploration and monster battling. Don’t expect too much and you won’t be disappointed.
Singularity is a FPS where you play an American lieutenant sent in to investigate a mysterious island where one of their satellites was downed flying over off the East coast off Russia. It turns out that there was a mysterious element discovered there which gives great energy, can be used in weapons and power sources, exposure to it can cause mutation and it can fuel a time manipulation device. You have some pretty cool powers including aging and de-aging objects to gain access to places you might not be able to otherwise. Guns feature some standard ones as well as some interesting ones. Enemies both human and especially mutant are varied and interesting, there are modern elite soldiers with resistance to your abilities, mutants with some interesting abilities and a boss type monster earlier on. The story is pretty good too. It is an interesting one where you want to find out more with taped recordings telling part of it and the narrative others. The characters are pretty interesting too. The ending gives you choice to take one of 4 options even if 1 is essentially nothing changes, the other 3 have dramatic effects. It’s a short game but that’s a welcome relief from bloated do this minor quest, collect this rabbits ear open world games which think forcing you to sink time into things is a good replacement for a engrossing story, gameplay and narrative. Very much enjoyed.
