Convenience features like the fast travel actually make the world seem a lot smaller – there's a fast travel point on almost every screen. The hint function in the inventory seems comprehensive enough not to have every character constantly prompt me to show them certain items – please let go of my hand. Speaking of the inventory, there's two versions of it. I understand that a compact list is more convenient than a graphical menu, but you still have to use the graphical one to combine items anyway, so it feels like yet another convenience feature that actually takes away from the personality of the game. Add to that the main character moves *too* fast, enough that it makes it slightly annoying to control, and... geez. I can't believe I'm asking for more friction in a game, but here I am. The graphics can be beautiful at times which only makes it more confusing as to why the main character's face is so ugly looking (yes, it's supposed to be ugly, but it's Ugly ugly). I really enjoy the vibrant personality of the other sprites in the game, even the gross ones. I think there's a lot of future potential from the dev team but Octopus City Blues misses the mark.
