Nexus is a great game in terms of space combat. Gorgeous effects and ship design. Even the sight of a ship exploding is gorgeous. HOwever, the real down side of the game is the speed of the campaign missions. There's no way of speeding up your time or pausing it so you must endure the real time speed of events and combat. That being said, the game is still a gorgeous title too play.
Where in the past we have seen a dark and horrific life of the Earth in previous UFO installments. Afterlight introduces a more cartoony look and feel in the UFO series. The cartoon look is very well done and does not take away from the severity of the situation for the humans. It stays true to it's predecessors in terms of game play, troop management, equipment manufacturing and research. There are times when the game feels a bit like a sand box at times. After you get past the initial objectives set by command, you then set out on a mix of defending your territory, expanding your control of the planet, attacking enemy ground by invasion, recovering artifacts or capturing a prisoner for interrogation. It seems there is only one main objective to the game and doesn't offer anything outside the concept of Humanity conquest.
Sim City is one of the many long running series out there. Before there was Sim City 3000 or the Sims there was Sim City. In Sim City 2000 you can enjoy creating your own thriving city. The simplicity of the graphics makes the game almost relaxing to the music. Half the fun of the game is the option to generate your very own tragic events like tornadoes, hurricanes and alien invasions.
I never got into playing Master of Orion 1. But when I started playing Master of Orion 2, I fell in love. It is a game that will NEVER get old and remain a golden classic. You can customize your ships with a variety of weapons, shields, armor, computers, equipment and engines. You can research a large variety of items to aid your colonies, your empire, diplomacy, weapons, etc. What I love is how they hint at influence from Star Trek and Star Wars. I love the fact that your largest and most powerful star ship is a "Doom Star", a massive small moon which can then be equipped with a "Stellar Converter" the planet destroyer gun. This is a game for EVERYONE too play. Casual and hard core. It is gorgeous in art, game play, originality and excitement. The only downside is that the multi player is non existent anymore. Since the game relied on an older version of online play which is now obsolete.
I remember when I first got Alpha Centauri. Back then I had no idea who Sid Meier's was or his games. But after playing Alpha Centauri I knew I had too try more of his games. Alpha Centauri is a gorgeous TBS game with gorgeous art and amazing game play from city management, exploration, terraforming, etc. If you are new to video games or to Sid Meier's style of games. Then I highly recommend you play Alpha Centauri and its expansion. It is a wonderful classic for all gamers young and old, casual and hard core.
