An overall very fun 4X Strategy, very aggressive, good use of the 40K lore and solid visuals. However, there are some things like the UI design, the music, and unit characterization that feel as though they could have used just a little more effort.
I've heard a lot of great stuff about the Deus Ex series for a while now. Finally decided to give it a try, and I'm so glad I started with the O.G. Sure, the visuals have aged, but for the year 2000 3d visuals, they've held up well enough. The writing is spectacular, and the systems design is still top-notch.
Dear Esther is light on gameplay. Which I can understand sounds almost sacreligous to a lot of people who love video games. However, I cannot reccomend it highly enough. The narrative experience is a beautiful, difficult to accept, and mournful tale, that is more than enough to compensate for the simple nature of the game.
This game is one of those, minute to learn lifetime to master deals. The basics of the game are intuitive, but there is SO much to do and try that it will devour your free time like a 4 year old let loose in a candy store. While I can't judge the expansion because as a child, I only had access to the original, the original alone is worth more than they're asking for this pack. If you enjoy the sim-city series, or even age of empires two or three, I could not suggest this highly enough.
