Cyberpunk 2077

A diamond in the rough

I just got through my first playthrough of this game, and it probably won't be the last. As of the writing of this review (3 days after launch, 2020.12.13.), the game is in a pretty bad state from a technical standpoint. But, we've already had a hotfix that addressed some of the issues people had (but there are still a lot of them present). From cars arriving broken to getting stuck on geometry, to enemies carrying necessary items not spawning it has quite a number of issues. AI is pretty lackluster, NPCs barely react to anything the player does short of killing them, them. I've also heard of issues about performance but I haven't really noticed anything of the sort (my specs are Ryzen 5 1600X, 16GB RAM, RX5700XT for context on this one). So why the five stars? The game has heart. The storytelling is just as great in my opinion as in The Witcher 3 and more than makes up for all of the issues I've experienced. I'm pretty sure this game will be remembered as fondly in the future as the studio's other works. People coming into the game later won't know about the bugs at launch (I think TW3 had a lot of issues at launch as well but I played that one much later) so in the end, it doesn't matter. The main cast is awesome, love them all from Judy through Panem to Jackie and of course the legendary Kea... I mean Johnny Silverhand. Conflicts are also interesting and varied, and the ending was touching but I won't go into details on that one. If you're reading this around the time of me writing and thinking of buying the game, I'd advise you to wait, try not to get spoiled and jump the gun in about half a year's time when the crew had time to patch everything. If you're reading later, then you should already know whether or not this game is worth buying, either because it's still remembered fondly, or I was wrong and it crashed and fell. I hope I'm right though.
