I held off playing for like 3-4 years and I'm glad I did since the glitches were minimal and I didn't hit any major bugs. This is such a mediocre game though, I couldn't even be bothered to finish the main story. It's just cutscene -> follow person -> choose from some pointless dialog options -> cutscene over and over and over - I was vaugely interested at first but my god it gets so BORING. As for mechanics... it's fine I guess. Standard FPS. Crap stealth. Driving is awful. The world feels about as deep as a puddle. Every dialog option leads to the same outcome. The graphics are pretty but the world has almost zero interation - it's literally just paint thin. Everything this game does has been done so much better elsewhere. Very disappointed, and would not recommend. Edit. Just noticed I've only put 20 hours into this - it honestly felt like I'd done double that.
Game feels full of 'gotcha' moments over and over and over again - enemies are timed perfectly to knock you off ledges or into crap, or into mud which means you can barely move and inevitably get hit by the next 'funny' thing. Compare this to Wonder Boy 3 : The Dragon's Trap, which it clearly is 'inspired' by - WB3 was damn near perfect made by people who wanted their players to have fun. This however is made by cnts who just want to piss people off.
I unashamadly love these games! Spent so many hours playing QFG 1 on my 486 that playing now I can breeze through most of the puzzles. Loved the fact that you can actually choose your skills and spend time levelling them up - I think that was one of the first times I saw that in a video game - and the levelling is well done too, in that it's basically practise makes perfect. If you want to improve at climbing, go climb stuff. Currently replaying again as a hybrid (Thief + magic + parry) and happily burglarising homes, killing locals, and generally spending more time messing around and levelling than actually doing anything heroic - luckily the game doesn't trigger events until you activate them so there's really no rush. Don't think I ever finished QFG 4 so this time around I'm finally going to tick that box! But yes, buy these games if you enjoy puzzles / RPG's / Classics / Sierra (they are way better than Kings Quest)
