Black Geyser: Couriers of Darkness

Tons of promise, but still needs polish

Normally I would not play and review a CRPG in early access, but I backed the game on kickstarter and they gave me key for early acces so I though why not give it a try. I'm happy to report there is quite a bit of promise showing from this game. I can't say it can stand up to pillars, pathfinder, BG, or the other isometric classics yet, but the visuals are solid, character creation as lots of choices, story has me intrigued enough, and the game play holds it's own. There are issues though, I found the first part of the game to be a bit sudden and awkard, the animations especially in combat are janky, I wish the tool tips gave more information or at least they would make some kind of in game encyclopdia where I could look info up, and just lots of little things here or there, loading times are not the best (it wasn't too bad for me since I have an SSD but I can tell it would be much worse without one), occasional stuttering in the city maps (very minor, but noticable). I would summerize that the game has a very solid foundation build so far, it just needs a lot more polish. That is really what most early access games should be. If you like classic Isometric RPGs then give this game a chance.

A Fun little nastolgic trip

I personally have had a fair bit of fun with this game so far. Great pixel graphics, nice atmopshere and style, and the game play is generally fun too. I would say that the best way to describe this game in terms of it's actual game play a beat'em up meats an old Lucas Arts adventure game. There is a lot of action but also a lot of time exploring different part of town, talking to NPCs, and Puzzel solving. Now that being said this games stroy is very much an 80's nastolgia trip, which is prefectly fine. Just don't go into this game excepting any great shakes. They are clearly going for a 80's saturday morning cartoon style here (the cut scene should give that away,) so go in expecting a 80's saturday moring cartoon plot. Well it's actually better than 80's cartoon plot since those were pretty terrible, but my point is that don't expect too much.
