this is a great game that plays like a fallout 1+minecraft without bugs all rolled neaty into one. If you like the sound of that wait no longer. Oh and don't take alcemy 2 you can find a skill book in the towery kind of castle before the maze. have fun!
currently worth price tag due to fun had! (be sure to buy griffon dlc too) the top review (at this time complains) about things that are often no longer valid if you like any kind of pirate game you'll probbaly really like this game. It really captures the feel of the warhammer world. wait till you see one of those orc vessel treadmill powered with a ram coming for you :D. the combat on board was better then expected imo. Tip theres a icesword that really makes you a damage dealer in combat: quest is somwhere in a kislev city. youll have to search each iceberg if you try, its worth it! I recommend you do the campaign if you buy as a neutral force instead of picking a side at first. dont forget to pick up the dlc if you can spare some coin. there are besides orcs many pirates and many chaos ships variables partys that can be a real bother if they are strong unless your well equiped. as a kind of example whats diffrent from the v1.0 version of the cons mentioned in other reviews i think there are other kind of ships but theres loads of more content right now compared to the first version. the game evven talks of skaven ships with warpcannons not sure if those are already in the game. The only 2 annoying bugs i've incountered are crewmembers falling off (they reappear unharmed) and after you quit the game it gets stuck and has to usally be forced closed. not really gamebreaking but annoying a bit. conclusion: the ship vs ship combat is great fun especially the fireing your cannons effectivly is loads of fun! (if your good at aligning a shot at the enemy ships (dont forget to pick up any drifting cargo barrels for free loot ah and you can capture ships sometimes.
based on past experiences: (below are numerised attractions of this game!) Tip/cheat: at end of text that you'll need to win jousts! This game has several fun parts that are all combined a medieval experience that is (mostly) great! if you meet an untimely end the narrator if I recall correctly will comment on your progress achieved and the way you died while a book slowly closes. thats just one cinimatic of a few. (dieing because the dragon ate you is another example :P ) pretty cool. NOTE: their are several weapon and armor (such as full plate) that you can find in the game through castle exploration of an enemy. 1:castle invasion!! great wolvenstein esq gameplay but with swords, you get castles to explore ( or defend!) you'll search every room for that better weapon or armor while a few hand picked men accompay you as you hack down all resistance. 2.tournaments: you can either go jousting (with or without a ladie's color wich shows their favour) or you can go on a rampage in a wooden enclosere with several other fighters duking it out. 3. castle kingdom simulation: the standerd tropes but somwhat appealing send huge force to castle to take it altough I think you actually have to go in the castle (castle invasion) yourself to actually capture it. 4 be a courageous knight and collect magic items (armor andd especially the (blessed?) lance!) and challange the dragon!! very hard! the somwhat excusable downsides: the map is a very dated in its appeal and representation of troops. the AI is stupid and the ghrapics are very poor overall. cheat/tip: when you figured out the correct spot for where to point your jousting lance put a small sticker there...heh you win each time.... I did find that the dragon was not so easy to lance though...yikes that cinematic if the dragon gets you...
I had a great time with this game. I'll cut right to it. Note: the mentioned degeneration of items that need to be repaired is not as bad as said in the 2 star review, you can even upgrade some things to make them degrade less quickly. Pro's: +Recommended game for any survivalist/rogue game enthosiast +feel of the game is amazing! (feels good man: dust storms above shelter, wild life gets trapped in your traps, black toxic rain, traders come to your shelter) +music and enviromental sounds are decent to great dependent on your own opinion. +you can customise your start group a lot (want too look like a madmax with bandana? you can) + You can select a pet (dog/horse/reptiel/horse) at start (I recomend the dog. really, it makes combat a breeze! but be sure to clean up with mop a lot) + you can get attacked in your shelter, wow my blood was pumping! got lucky with paint bucket trap +Replayability: It's hard and every time the map changes if you have to start over. cons: -it's hard (wait is that a con?) -no pause with give orders button (but you get used to it and you can plan actions ahead by giving 2 planned actions) -biggest con as of 9 august 2016 theirs no update of this game on gog! steam is already at 1.3 gog is on 1.0
Note please rate this review so others can read this! Hey all after reading all the reviews about it not running I was hestiant in buying it. (I have a laptop win 8.1) However I bought it and installed it with gog galaxy I noticed something odd the galaxy version is much larger then the non galaxy version. This may be the cause that the others had problems. Because the non galaxy version is below 200 mb and i know for a fact that the full version is more than that (because of the movies!). I tested it fully. Battles work everything is great. having a blast. (This game is notoriously hard unless you change the game files advanced users only!) All i need now is to find the game's notepad files and cheat the wounds of the troops from 1 to 2 so they are very hard to kill. Be warned messing with the game file is dangerous. But many experienced vetrans did this way back. Funfact there are some hidden units in the game the developers used to test the game. Theres an alternate version of the grudgebringers in there if i remember correctly. To see them you would have to find their troop name and numbers and copy paste them over the grudgebringers start file (mission 1) (note: its not called mission 1) i think there was also a cannon (to test things by developers) right at start, been a while.
