Your first clue is a intro menu that is slanted over at about 330 degrees to give some stylist look. You get options to select various control profiles and assists. Upon playing the game you get a kind of top down view, again at some bizzare angle off to give a isometric effect. Your car accelerates very slowly with the steering precision of one of those old American Sedan Cars built for comfort i.e slow and wallowy. There's red cubes on the map you are to hit to collect, along with walls and various objects making up the map. Due to how slowly your car accelerates and moves through the gears ( auto or manual ) theres a real disconnect in control, add in super brakes and the games challenge vs reward and fun is a aquired taste. Would maybe of been something i'd of played on an old 8 bit system decades ago, mainly due to lack of decent games back then, but now, it isn't for me. Pretty sure there will be someone who dedicates all their time to this type of game and loves it. It just isn't me though. I find it puzzling it gets such rave 5 star reviews.
If you've played Battlestart Galactica Deadlock and are noticing some similarities here, you are right. Star Hammer is the genesis of that game. The major difference here is you play a more structured campaign and you manage smaller fighter craft like you would the Destroyers, Corvettes, Battleships and so on. The game seems to be getting some hammer here in the reviews but I really enjoyed the game and give it a strong 4 out of 5 definitely worth a punt if you liked what Deadlock offered you. There are at times strong enemy forces to overcome but all battles are doable with the tools you are given. As you progress your fleet gains experience and better abilities making loss a painful event (read save button).
Would definitely recommend Achilles Legends Untold, under 1 proviso, that being - You own a Gamepad and wish to play the game on a Gamepad. I began playing on M+K and found the game though playable, quite clunky with some actions just not working as they should or difficult to pull off with key presses, such as Roll instead of run. Also having to use Keys for your movement constantly combined with the mouse for attacks and tagging enemies meant having to hit other keys for potions or throwing items meant sacrificing either movement or attack. Once a gamepad is used the game becomes much more enjoyable. Set in Ancient Greece ( kind of ) it's an ARPG where they've tried to make Boss fights more engaging and tactical and for the most part they have pulled this off really well. Add into this regular combat where enemies can be equiped with different weapons requiring variation in tactics to be more efficient. The Game has a Dark Souls alike system where you are teleported back to the last Shrine ( A-La Bonfire ) and also implement the recollect dropped Exp Points, though the game itself isn't as punishing or frustrating as a Soulslike by a long shot. Getting back to the Target Lock/Select when using a Gamepad a Right Click on the Stick locks and Flicking the same Stick Up or Down alters quickly who you are Tagging, this ability transforms combat. So, yes can defo recommend, get your Brad Pitt styled Troy ARPG / Soulsy fix. It's a great game and has it's own identity / playstyle.
After leaving Black Sabbath, Ozzy bounced back against all odds. Leaving a History of Bangers in his wake and some excellent duets. The Randy Rhoads period was sadly cut all too short. Jake E Lee had Bark at the Moon, but it wasn't until the Mighty Zak Wylde appeared on the scene to rescue Ozzy and give him those powerhouse years. In this game you return to the Bronze Age, with excellent new lyrics, but no electric guitars nor amplification. I met a traveller from an antique land, Who said—“Two vast and trunkless legs of stone Stand in the desert. . . . Near them, on the sand, Half sunk a shattered visage lies, whose frown, And wrinkled lip, and sneer of cold command, Tell that its sculptor well those passions read Which yet survive, stamped on these lifeless things, The hand that mocked them, and the heart that fed; And on the pedestal, these words appear: My name is Ozymandias, King of Kings; Look on my Works, ye Mighty, and despair! Nothing beside remains. Round the decay Of that colossal Wreck, boundless and bare The lone and level sands stretch far away.”
Probably not GoG's fault, but this game used to work under windows 10 and Dosbox, but recently most of the DosBox games are no longer functional under windows 10 making a lot of GoG's library non functional. Sad as you'd hope they'd be on top of this.
Distant Worlds, although at a glance looks like all the others out there with the research trees, fleets and stations etc... Has carved out something unique with what it does, incorperating a civialian industry operating within your territory and adding to your industry and fianaces. Add to this the option to take over and manage as much as you wish or as little, during your play session along with events occurring to prevent the game falling into the trap of just going through the motions except on a increasingly larger scale. You are left with in my opinion the only game that can stand toe to toe against Stellaris ( except it doesn't require an abundance of expensive DLCs to keep playing ). Where it couldn't match its rival was in having 3d models, if eye candy is important - and lets face it, in Space Games that's a yes. Still though I recommend this Epic Sim 100%. There is a Distant Worlds 2 now which does have 3d and numerous differences, but even now DW1 remains valid and offers infinate playability for a low price.
Exactly as the title, if you played the O.G Xcom game but wanted the same with Astartes and more of them on the ground to face the forces of Chaos, well here you go. The RNG doesn't seem as harsh as what plagued the Xcom games, sometime turning them into save scummers just to get by without losing those troops you've nurtured from the early days ( up until that point where psyonics made it all irrelevant ). Game works fully with Windows 10 out of the box, so that's a massive winner ! The Soundtrack is also legendary and you'll already know most of the tunes if you've watched any of the fan made stuff on You Tube - Especially BRUVA ALFABUSA and the excellent 'If the Emperor had Text to Speech' series, and if you haven't watched any of that, get this game then go away and watch TTS immediately. Yep, soild recommend, even I dare say at normal price, but it's 26 years old so no rush, wait for that glorious sales time. That's it 10/10 Have a good 1
