Attentat 1942

No propaganda at all, but a game?

I got this game on sale out of a weird curiosity because I've been on a WW2 kick lately to learn all I can about it. I was wondering if it might be like the strategic "Through The Darkest of Times" game that I enjoyed but it was more like an interactive FMV/ graphic novel. Quick and to the point, you probably won't enjoy this game unless you have a profound interest in WW2 history. And not what happened in battles, but day-to-day life. It's a quick play, I finished in the game in just over two hours, and even with my interest in the genre I never felt hooked on what was going on. The spoken language is all in Czech so you have to follow subtitles. And at times there's a lot of reading involved, like when you find diaries from your grandparents. Interactivity is minimal, some random mini-games interspersed with Q & A interviews with filmed actors. If you really like WW2 history and have a few hours to spend, and find it on sale for < $5, go ahead and grab it. But for the love of god, please change the thumbnail graphic. What game puts someone's sad and forlorn looking grandmother on it as a marketing tool?

Star Wars™: Rebel Assault 1 + 2

Aged poorly, not worth the effort

I really wanted to get into this game, I remember wanting this as teenager in the 90s and my parents not willing to upgrade the computer for it. Fast forward to today and there's nothing fun about it at all; who wants to waste time on what was basically a CD-ROM tech demo in the early years of the medium? Modern computers run way too fast for the control scheme and you'll find yourself exploding A LOT in what should be tutorial levels. I managed to find some cheat codes that would boost my health back up so I could keep going in the game but even then there was nothing really worth playing for. I don't mind rail-shooters per se if they're well done, but this one is not. I ended up watching a play-through on YouTube to get the gist of the game's story-line. My experience was all with #1, but I was so turned off of the series I did not load up #2; I also watched it on YouTube and was not impressed with what I saw either. I give it a 2nd star because I'm sure it'll be a hoot for nostalgia sake for those who did play it in the 90s when it first came out. But don't pay more than $3 for the pair of games and be ready to tinker with it to try and get it playable.
