This game is really meant to be played either on a big 1080p screen or a Tate monitor. My ancient 1600x1050 screen doesn't care for it :P. Like the title says I would _kill_ for a color blind mode. Blue and Purple power ups make the game damn near unplayable to the 8% of us who can't tell purple from blue. Picking up a blue when you wanted a purple keeps you at the same power level. You can go for the red until your maxed out, but it still drives me nuts. Other than that it's a solid shmup with great graphics and neat power ups. Plus It brings back the toothpaste lazer from Raiden II :)
I needed to add the command line parameters: -d3d -KeepAvailableVram-1073741824 -NoMixer to the motoracer.ini to make d3d and sound work though. Other than that rock solid 60fps (like you'd expect from a PS1 era game), worked with my gamepad/joystick out of box and controls great. This is one of the best arcade racers out there, and the graphics don't look half bad once it's in motion :)
Lots of missing animation frames, slightly lower resolution. Still neat to see it. If it were me It'd track down the Playstation Anthology pack or a copy of Alpha 3 on the PS One. This is still a great game on it's own merits, it's just not optimal.
