Not For Broadcast

Funny and Frustrating

I have a FMV addiction these past two years. I bought this, and I liked the humour, and it's one of the better FMV games you can play. But here's what I didn't like. If you want to just edit the news in a funny manner, you can do this, but the game throws many distractions at you, and so rather than just watching the FMV you spend more time fighting creatures, stopping lightning strikes and tuning the loss of signal. The great part is, that doesn't matter as after the broadcast is over you can watch the result of your work - you can watch the broadcast in full as YOU sent it out. The other part of the game which is what I found more frustrating, is the game would crash a lot on me, so I'd have to start the current broadcast all over again. And when this happened to me back to back, I just gave up on this game and haven't gone back. I do want to check it out again, but I'd need to know those hard CTD's have been fixed.

Star Trek™: Voyager - Elite Force

Set phasers to STUNNING!

The game's built on the Quake III engine, so it had great visuals, great performance, and best in class mouse "feel" in shooting games of the era. It also featured a great Star Trek storyline, awesome weapons, and great multiplayer which I used to have a lot of fun playing vs bots. Despite the expansion pack being poorly reviewed, I've been seeking it out forever and FINALLY gog.com has come to the rescue. A no brainer purchase for me.

Sid Meier's Civilization IV®: The Complete Edition

Nice return to form

I was disappointed by Civilization III, and this game restored my faith in the series...literally. You can now take over the world by spreading your chosen religeon. Pretty awesome, and it's narrated by Leonard Nimoy which really puts the icing on the cake. The series achieved perfection in Civilization V (when you add the expansions), but this game is absolutely worth playing.

Alan Wake

Brilliant narrative in a perfect setting

If Alan Wake has flaws, then it only has two. Firstly the game is a bit easy compared with similar games like Resident Evil. Other flaw is the ending may be predictable, although they do a fantastic job of trying to throw you off just before the reveal. It's also SLIGHTLY too long, but not that much so that you will not sit down and play this through in a couple of nights - and by the way you should play this with the lights off as the atmosphere is top notch.

Gabriel Knight: Sins of the Fathers

Flawless point and click adventuring

If you played point and click adventures 'back in the day' and somehow you missed this series because maybe you didn't have a PC or for whatever reason... trust me, buy all three games. Easily the best point&click series, equal to Monkey Island except this series has a much obviously darker tone.

Sensible World of Soccer 96/97

Get the XBox version instead

This game was released a while back on XBox Live for the 360. In addition to having the original game in it's original form it also included the option for "updated" graphics and music. Of course the original flavor is best, so have at it my sons.

System Shock® 2 (1999)

Hate those monkeys!

The only fault this game has is that it's possible to create an unplayable character if you don't make wise choices when leveling. The atmosphere is great, and I believe this was the first game to employ spoken audio logs which really helps to sell the whole "on a ship with dead people" concept.
