I would say this is more adventure than horror. It's a great game, reminds me of an old Sierra type (think King's Quest or Gold Rush, but all point and click). The genre is definitely not survival or horror; you cannot die and there is no action or enemy to retreat from, per se. I'd say it is more suspense than anything else, but with a creepy "lovecraft" theme. The music and sound are great and really make it immersive. The game is top notch as a retro-style point and click, and I'd recommend it to anyone who likes adventure games. I got it on sale and it was more than worth the price of admission. I've finished 3 of the 4 chapters, with them ranging from 30-50 minutes each. Let's just say I'm already looking forward to finishing chapter 4 and will be purchasing future chapters! A+

Purchased the game 75% off and it does not disappoint. Graphics are on par with some of today's titles if you turn up the tweakable options. I was a casual fan of the Riddick movies (Pitch Black, Chronicles of Riddick). The game not only has a great plot and awesome gameplay but some really stellar voice acting from Vin Diesel. It feels like an extension of the movies. The protagonist is a bada$$, and it's fun to rip guards and cretin to shreds with him. The first time I stabbed someone in the eye with a shank I laughed out loud, and it never gets old. The underground segment early in the game is scary as hell, even when you know you're the beastly Riddick. At any rate, do yourself a favor and purchase this game if you can get it on sale. I haven't even played the Dark Athena portion yet; the Butcher Bay game is worth the price of admission all by itself! Thanks GOG for another great deal.

As someone who'd missed out on the AoW series but was a fan of the Civ games (especially Civilization 2), I'd been waiting on this title to release. I'd read that it was an improvement on AoW2 and the graphics looked to be way better than AoW1. Plus it has a random map generator. So far, so good after about 4-6 hours of gameplay. Although GOG says it includes a manual, I didn't see that on the downloads page. However, there is an extensive tutorial in-game, so not really a need for a manual in my opinion. As others have described, this is basically a fantasy version of the Civ series. So anyone who likes that series and is into fantasy realm type stuff, you'll enjoy this. It has some cool differences such as starting out with a wizard (customizable) who can cast spells each turn, including during combat. And you can pick up mercenary units for a price, plus units all have the ability to level up. Very cool. So basically, I'd say this game is worth the $10 price tag. If you're on the fence about it, search YouTube and there are a few gameplay videos that can give you an idea of what it's like. Thanks GOG!
