I vividly recall playing this awesome turn-based strategy game against two of my friends in the "Hot Seat" mode. Exploring, treasure-hunting, building and battling with a distinct board-game flavor. A very social and fun experience!
... you're gonna enjoy this one. Linear gameplay, kill'em all mission statements, innovative weapons (John Woo dual-pistols), lots of gore, mean traps, being able to break stuff, cool final bosses. No surprises, just good ol' fun straight from 1995.
This game delivers the goods! Fast paced action in a visually pleasing environment. Good bot AI, innovative as well as classic game modes, cool vehicles, well balanced weaponry, memorable maps. But let me tell you the most amazing thing: The controls are incredibly snappy. I required virtually no getting used to mouse speed & precision or practice using the special moves. It all just flows naturally. Fun fun fun!
A game that is both exciting and oddly relaxing and fun. I never felt panicky or frustrated when playing UT (Unlike CS or Q3A). The bright colors, the innovative weaponry and things like the teleport disk made it different from your everyday shooter. It will always have a special place in my heart :)
The enemy advances on your castle. Those damn ladder-carrying units in the front. Even though your archers are firing like mad, there is a big lump of those guys moving towards your walls. You retreat your vanguard within the castle and let go one of those large logs. It rolls downhill and squashes the whole ladder-carrying lot of them as well as a group of enemy archers. VERY satisfying :) Another very satisfying thing is to be able to throw over enemy ladders just in time. Seeing those slow, yet horribly tough armored enemy knights run from ladder to ladder and kicking those over just when they reach it. Take that, little knight! Like shooting (armored) fish in a barrel. But be aware: It's not all fun and giggles. You will get into incredibly tight spots and the tide of battle can turn very quickly.
Your team is holed up in a small house surrounded by heavily armed villains. You are VASTLY outnumbered. They are closing in. Peering & shooting through windows, storming through the front door. And even though you use your Quickload button to make sure every bullet finds a head, you are slowly forced to retreat towards the only room without windows: the bathroom. Can you hold your ground... the bathroom, that is? Great times.
