I remember getting this in one of those membership-club mega combo disc things crammed full of freeware and shareware, back when people still called programs freeware and shareware, instead of indie and pirated. Battle Chess is fantastic, and solely responsible for teaching me the rules of chess. It may not be the most in-depth version out there, but its simplicity and beautifully fluid animations are delightful, and served quite well to keep me entertained for upwards of 10 hours. Buy this for your kids, and don't be surprised when they learn how to play chess -- or expect bishops to fire lasers.
