Reinstalling the 50gb next gen version over stupid slow 5g internet to play again in 2025, the game is that good. People are recommending the "Brothers in Arms" patch from Nexusmods that fixes the bugs (5000+) that are still in the game. That being said when I finished the vanilla story a few years ago I didn't have any mods/patches installed and it ran just fine. But for the best possible experience in 2025 I am going to try a few of the QOL mods this time. Soundtrack is still probably best ever in a video game.
I own every DLC for Stellaris on GoG and this is the only one I disable. 1000+ hour player (no mods) who has bought all DLC day one for the game (and will continue to do so) but this one blows. The storms are the most annoying things in the game, they add a ton of stupid stuff to research and more buildings you have build on a planet "just in case". Plus, the AI seems to have zero clue how to handle them and their empires just crumble when hit by storms. I played a game last night to give it "one more chance" and well into mid-game I decided that no, it really sucks. I will even say it ruins the game having this DLC enabled. Maybe in 2025 there will be some patches to make the storms less retarded. This is a good example of adding "width" instead of "depth".
Abysmal loading screen times and extreme over-tuned difficulty. The very first mission to grab a medkit has a feral ghoul that one taps you and all you have is a crappy knife. Zero of the charm found in fallout 3 or the wonderful expanse of New Vegas. Poorly written and uninteresting story combined with endless rubble doesn't make for a very fun game. Spent more time reloading combat encounters than anything else. Played for about 4 hours before uninstalling. Don't waste your time.
Fun turn based strategy game similar to X-com. Never had any crashes or major issues playing 150+ hours on a 4090 laptop. Visually looks good being set in a third world country, pretty blue beaches and palm trees with piles of trash and old tires floating in the ocean. There is a mod on nexusmods worth checking out (show chance to hit) and you should read some guides on steam. current/final version of the game is patch 1.1.5 and many of the frustrations other reviewers expressed have been addressed.
