The story is baffling, with multiple endings.. this isn't a bad thing, it's an emotional simulation. There's a lot of pantomime, and gibberish because the game is about confusion, being lost, and sacrifice. This is not a light hearted game, but the story may be cathartic to those who have experienced the loss of a loved one despite the best efforts of both. "Only you can save her" means, you determine how the protagonist walks away from the scenario presented. Incidentally, she isn't really being tortured, it's just some really dark decisions.
