Nox™

My most placed GOG game

I remember seeing this in Walmart when it first came out. Always meant to get it since I thought it might be similar to one of my old favorites, Shadowlands on Amiga. After many hours of play I can say that YEP that's about what this is. Wonderful isometric dungeon crawling , hacking, sell casting.... Simple to pick up, tough at time... endlessly fun. One of my favorite games of this type. I found myself playing it more than Skyrim at one point! lol NOTES: I stopped playing for a time, then went back to play some more after huge amounts of craving, but it started freezing my PC hard. I ended up redownloading and that seems to be working again. Save games are fine, just be sure to keep them (back them up somewhere) and you're good to go. Also, the inventory system came get messy when you save everything. A hovering description window over items would have been nice, but you can use the gadget to ID things and that's nearly as good. Hard to find anything to complain about this little gem. Perfect score from me! This is why gog.com is so great, I would have forgotten about this one, sure enough.

Syndicate Wars™

Reviewing from memory

A truly amazing game for it's time. I remember how the landscape could alter with explosions, etc, similar to Magic Carpet. And I remember finding that so amazing. Unfortunately, my PC was always too slow to run it... when I finally got a fast one it was too fast. That was the story with many PC Bullfrog titles (never had that problem with Amiga). Still, this one is among the ones I've been waiting for gog to release. Will definitely rebuy it here sometime. Can't wait to actually play it again.

Simon the Sorcerer 2

Must be missing the voice work...

The Amiga CD32 version had pretty good voicework by Red Dwarf's Chris Barrie. I'd really miss that since this version (at 82megs) doesn't have it. Still, I really enjoyed this game on CD32. One of my favs on that (sadly doomed) platform. The game is often laugh out loud funny. I'd say 5 stars wtih voice. 3.5 to 4 without. the current price seems like an excellent deal.

Crusaders of Might and Magic

One of my favorite demos!

I have to admit, I never played the full game, only the demo. I'd always meant to pick it up since it reminded me of some of my favorite hack/slashers from the past. I remember thinking the combat was a really good challenge and the levels weren't all that badly designed for the time. I grew up on stuff like Dungeon Master and Ultimate Underworld. This game just felt right. I plan to buy this after I've tried to demo again to see how it runs on my system. I may wait for a sale. Feels good to finally buy stuff like this.
